At the basics of YouthBank is the fact that young people are the ones who will shape the future. Ironically, their present opportunities for doing this are not always… present. So, youth potential, their creativity and energy are only partial valued by society. Even where there are volunteer opportunities, young people seldom participate in the process of making decisions. YouthBank provides for young people a framework to work together and make decisions regarding their community. Every year, in Romania about 15 youngsters aged between 15 and 20 years from each town where the program is implemented, known as “the youngest bankers from Romania”, create, promote and transparently administrate a special fund in order to finance projects implemented by high school students. The program is a mechanism for encouraging youth behavior regarding: philanthropy, civic initiative and responsibility.
The program was launch in 2006 in Cluj-Napoca, implemented by Association for Community Relations(ARC) through the program for developing Cluj Community Foundation. Later in 2008, once with the setup of Cluj Community Foundation (FCC) it became the core program of Foundation and began to be very popular and successful in Cluj-Napoca and beyond.
In 2009 the program was launched national and coordinated by ARC in five new towns throughout the country: Alba Iulia, Bucharest, Constanța, Odorheiu Secuiesc and Timișoara. Starting with the school year 2010-2011, YouthBank was implemented in Iași, and in 2011-2012 in Tîrgu-Mureș. At the beginning of school year 2012-2013, four new towns joined YouthBank Romania network: Baraolt, Oradea, Sfântu Gheorghe and Sibiu. In 2013-2014 three new organizations implemented YouthBank program in: Bacău, Făgăraș and Ploiești. And in 2014-2015 Reghin joined YouthBank Romania Network.
In June 2014 ARC founded Foundation for Youth Involvement (FYI). FYI took over the ARC responsibilties, becoming the organization that is coordinating and developing the program at a national level. The strategy of FYI is to implement in the near future other programs for youth.
In 2015-2016 YouthBank Romania Network grow with 3 new tows: Galați, Satu Mare and Târgoviște. Currently, YouthBank program is implemented in 13 communities.
